Welcome. I am Marc H. Tanenbaum, MD., a family practice physician who has served the Longmont Community for more than 30 years. My staff includes two excellent nurse practitioners who specialize in women's health, pediatric and newborn care. My office personnel represent one of the most caring and efficient staffs in Boulder County. Many are bilingual. Our goal is the prevention and eradication of heart disease, the number one killer, far surpassing cancer. By acting proactively, our aim is to minimize the occurrence of heart attacks and strokes among our patient population.
We utilize cutting edge technology including:
• IMT's - an ultrasound of the carotid arteries measuring the Intima Media Thickness which provides the early detection of arterial plaque and thickness to identify the potential for heart disease and to initiate timely treatment. Some studies recommend IMT testing start as early as age 25. This test is offered in our office monthly and is normally covered by insurance. A member of my staff will be glad to check your insurance to see if the IMT is a covered benefit.
• CT-Heart Scan - we utilize Twin Peaks imaging for heart scans. This CT-scan of the heart and lungs identifies calcifications and develops a personal risk assessment for each patient.
• Boston Heart Lab testing - blood analysis performed at the Boston Heart Lab includes a 35 page report including genetic testing to identify markers which provide information associated with the production and absorbance of cholesterol, this enables personal tailoring of medications that will be of most benefit to our patients. In most instances the analysis done at the Boston Lab is covered by insurance with minimal out of pocket expense to our patients.
• Berkeley Lab testing - by utilizing the testing offered via the Berkeley Lab we can offer unique testing not offered by other physicians. Unlike other laboratories the Berkeley Lab analysis includes two unique heart markers. The first is KIF-6 which measures the individual's ability to respond to a statin medication such as Crestor. The second is LpA helps to identify how our patients will respond to aspirin therapy. In addition the Berkeley Lab provides ApoE testing and genetic testing which provides insight on how individuals will respond to dietary changes, including free dietary counseling.
• Lipo Science Lab - by utilizing the analysis offered via the Lipo Science Lab we are able to evaluate the probability of an individual developing diabetes mellitus. Lipo Science also measures LDL-P numbers which more accurately predicts who will produce arterial plaque. Some studies recommend testing starting as early as age 25. Most physicians still use LDL-c which is a poor predictor of heart disease.
• deCodeme - a genetic testing lab which actually uses DNA markers to determine who is at risk for developing cancer, including breast, prostate, colon cancer, etc.
